Core Values

Johnson Street shares much in common with other churches. However, we believe that each congregation of God's church has a distinctive personality. At Johnson Street, we have identified six Core Values that shape our unique identity.

NURTURE

We believe that through the gospel of Jesus God heals our brokeness. At Johnson Street, you will find a congregation with open arms for those who have experienced pain and disappointment in life. We seek both to speak and live the gospel in a way that brings God's healing into lives.

BENEVOLENCE

God is concerned about the physical well being of his creation. Johnson Street is filled with disciples who understand themselves to be the hands and feet of Jesus in bringing help to all kinds of needs. As an organized effort, our Rust Street Ministries reach into the community with assistance in food, clothing and counsel.

FAMILIES

At Johnson Street you will hear the word "family" often. This is how we see ourselves--God's family. Many of our programs are aimed at strengthening families within the church and the community. We are currently completing a Family Life Center to provide space for families to fellowship and learn together. And for those whose family experience has been less than ideal, we seek to become family for them.

MISSIONS

We have a long history of involvement in local and foreign missions. Many of our members participate in mission efforts each year--especially through the Youth and University programs. We are currently supporting mission efforts in Brazil, New Zealand, Honduras and Guatemala, and our Missions Committee is always planning ways to reach out into more places at home and abroad.

UNITY

We believe that God strongly desires that his children love one another. Although Johnson Street is composed of people with diverse backgrounds and ideas, we value the practice of "the unity of the Spirit and the bond of peace."

EXCELLENCE

Since Jesus gave his life for the church, we are committed to giving our best efforts in his service. We pray that each act of service, each time of worship, and each program of the church bears the mark of excellence.
